This is a real story that happened between the customer of General Motors and its Customer-Care Executive. Please read on…..

A complaint was received by the Pontiac Division of General Motors:
'This is the second time I have written to you, and I don't blame you for not answering me, because I sounded crazy, but it is a fact that we have a tradition in our family of Ice-Cream for dessert after dinner each night, but the kind of ice cream varies so, every night, after we've eaten, the whole family votes on which kind of ice cream we should have and I drive down to the store to get it. It's also a fact that I recently purchased a new Pontiac and since then my trips to the store have created a problem….

You see, every time I buy a vanilla ice-cream, when I start back from the store my car won't start. If I get any other kind of ice cream, the car starts just fine. I want you to know I'm serious about this question, no matter how silly it sounds "What is there about a Pontiac that makes it not start when I get vanilla ice cream, and easy to start whenever I get any other kind?" The Pontiac President was understandably skeptical about the letter, but sent an Engineer to check it out anyway.

The latter was surprised to be greeted by a successful, obviously well educated man in a fine neighborhood. He had arranged to meet the man just after dinner time, so the two hopped into the car and drove to the ice cream store. It was vanilla ice cream that night and, sure enough, after they came back to the car, it wouldn't start.

The Engineer returned for three more nights. The first night, they got chocolate. The car started. The second night, he got strawberry. The car started. The third night he ordered vanilla. The car failed to start.

Now the engineer, being a logical man, refused to believe that this man's car was allergic to vanilla ice cream. He arranged, therefore, to continue his visits for as long as it took to solve the problem. And toward this end he began to take notes: He jotted down all sorts of data: time of day, type of gas uses, time to drive back and forth etc.

In a short time, he had a clue: the man took less time to buy vanilla than any other flavor. Why? The answer was in the layout of the store. Vanilla, being the most popular flavor, was in a separate case at the front of the store for quick pickup. All the other flavors were kept in the back of the store at a different counter where it took considerably longer to check out the flavor.

Now, the question for the Engineer was why the car wouldn't start when it took less time. Eureka - Time was now the problem - not the vanilla ice cream!!!! The engineer quickly came up with the answer: "vapor lock".

It was happening every night; but the extra time taken to get the other flavors allowed the engine to cool down sufficiently to start. When the man got vanilla, the engine was still too hot for the vapor lock to dissipate!!!

Even crazy looking problems are sometimes real and all problems seem to be simple only when we find the solution, with cool thinking.

Once there was an old man who lived in a tiny village. Although poor, he was envied by all, for he owned a beautiful white horse. Even the king coveted his treasure. A horse like this had never been seen beforesuch was its splendor, its majesty, its strength. People offered fabulous prices for the steed, but the old man always refused. "This horse is not a horse to me," he would tell them. "It is a person. How could you sell a person? He is a friend, not a possession. How could you sell a friend?" The man was poor and the temptation was great. But he never sold the horse.

One morning he found that the horse was not in the stable. All the village came to see him. "You old fool," they scoffed, "we told you that someone would steal your horse. We warned you that you would be robbed. You are so poor. How could you ever hope to protect such a valuable animal? It would have been better to have sold him. You could have gotten whatever price you wanted. No amount would have been too high. Now the horse is gone, and you've been cursed with misfortune."

The old man responded, "Don't speak too quickly. Say only that the horse is not in the stable. That is all we know; the rest is judgment. If I've been cursed or not, how can you know? How can you judge?" The people contested, "Don't make us out to be fools! We may not be philosophers, but great philosophy is not needed. The simple fact that your horse is gone is a curse."

The old man spoke again. "All I know is that the stable is empty, and the horse is gone. The rest I don't know. Whether it be a curse or a blessing, I can't say. All we can see is a fragment. Who can say what will come next?" The people of the village laughed. They thought that the man was crazy. They had always thought he was a fool; if he wasn't, he would have sold the horse and lived off the money. But instead, he was a poor woodcutter, an old man still cutting firewood and dragging it out of the forest and selling it. He lived hand to mouth in the misery of poverty. Now he had proven that he was, indeed, a fool.

After fifteen days, the horse returned. He hadn't been stolen; he had run away into the forest. Not only had he returned, he had brought a dozen wild horses with him. Once again the village people gathered around the woodcutter and spoke. "Old man, you were right and we were wrong. What we thought was a curse was a blessing. Please forgive us."

The man responded, "Once again, you go too far. Say only that the horse is back. State only that a dozen horses returned with him, but don't judge. How do you know if this is a blessing or not? You see only a fragment. Unless you know the whole story, how can you judge? You read only one page of a book. Can you judge the whole book? You read only one word of a phrase. Can you understand the entire phrase? "Life is so vast, yet you judge all of life with one page or one word. All you have is a fragment! Don't say that this is a blessing. No one knows. I am content with what I know. I am not perturbed by what I don't." "Maybe the old man is right," they said to one another. So they said little. But down deep, they knew he was wrong. They knew it was a blessing. Twelve wild horses had returned with one horse. With a little bit of work, the animals could be broken and trained and sold for much money.

The old man had a son, an only son. The young man began to break the wild horses. After a few days, he fell from one of the horses and broke both legs. Once again the villagers gathered around the old man and cast their judgments."You were right," they said. "You proved you were right. The dozen horses were not a blessing. They were a curse. Your only son has broken his legs, and now in your old age you have no one to help you. Now you are poorer than ever." The old man spoke again. "You people are obsessed with judging. Don't go so far. Say only that my son broke his legs. Who knows if it is a blessing or a curse? No one knows. We only have a fragment. Life comes in fragments."

It so happened that a few weeks later the country engaged in war against a neighboring country. All the young men of the village were required to join the army. Only the son of the old man was excluded, because he was injured. Once again the people gathered around the old man, crying and screaming because their sons had been taken. There was little chance that they would return. The enemy was strong, and the war would be a losing struggle. They would never see their sons again.

"You were right, old man," they wept. "God knows you were right. This proves it. Your son's accident was a blessing. His legs may be broken, but at least he is with you. Our sons are gone forever."

The old man spoke again. "It is impossible to talk with you. You always draw conclusions. No one knows. Say only this: Your sons had to go to war, and mine did not. No one knows if it is a blessing or a curse. No one is wise enough to know. Only God knows."

The old man was right. We only have a fragment. Life's mishaps and horrors are only a page out of a grand book. We must be slow about drawing conclusions. We must reserve judgment on life's storms until we know the whole story.

I don't know where the woodcutter learned his patience. Perhaps from another woodcutter in Galilee. For it was the Carpenter who said it best:

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself."

Customer Service Rep: No problem. LOVE will automatically erase PASTHURT.EXE from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory, but it will no longer disrupt other programs. LOVE will eventually overwrite LOWESTEEM.EXE with a module of its own called HIGHESTEEM.EXE. However, you have to completely turn off GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT,COM. Those programs prevent LOVE from being properly installed. Can you turn those off ma'am?

Customer: I don't know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how?

Customer Service Rep: My pleasure. Go to your Start menu and invoke FORGIVENESS.EXE. Do this as many times as necessary until GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT,COM have been completely erased.

Customer: Okay, I'm done. LOVE has started installing itself automatically. Is that normal?

Customer Service Rep: Yes it is. You should receive a message that says it will reinstall for the life of your HEART. Do you see that message?

Customer: Yes I do. Is it completely installed?

Customer Service Rep: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You need to begin connecting to other HEARTS in order to get the upgrades.

Customer: Oops...I have an error message already. What should I do?

Customer Service Rep: What does the message say?

Customer: It says "ERROR 412 - PROGRAM NOT RUN ON INTERNAL COMPONENTS". What does that mean?

Customer Service Rep: Don't worry ma'am, that's a common problem. It means that the LOVE program is set up to run on external HEARTS but has not yet been run on your HEART. It is one of those complicated programming things, but in non-technical terms it means you have to "LOVE" your own machine before It can "LOVE"others.

Customer: So what should I do?

A woman writes to the IT Technical support Guy

*Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and I noticed a
distinct slowdown in the overall system performance, particularly in the
flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under
Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such
as
Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable
programs such as NEWS 5.0, MONEY 3.0 and CRICKET 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the
system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5...3 to fix these problems,
but to no avail.
What can I do?

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while
Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme. Html and try to downloadTears
6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
If that application works as designed, Husband1.0should then automatically
run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5..

However, remember, overuse of the above application can causeHusband 1.0
to default to Silence 2.5or Beer 6.1.
Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the
Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0

True Love Story

The last thing you know Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad for, is its love stories. about Siddharth Choudhary, from IIMA (then an undergrad) and Nidhi from a college near-by. Then, people said their love story was sweet and that it would weather all storms.

Months later, the couple did weather a huge storm when Nidhi was diagnosed with cancer. The duo came out strong and unscathed from it and this journey is now encompassed in a book titled 'Eagle Spotted, Message Decoded.' The book is written by Siddharth and has just about hit the stands.

Siddharth says much of his learning in life happened after his graduation from IIMA. "There are lots of things you don't learn at a management school. Life tests you and you have to learn quickly without any prior training. But yes, my MBA degree gave me the confidence to bounce back in life," he says.

Girl meets boy

Siddharth first spotted Nidhi at a small time tea stall just along side the IIM-A campus boundary wall. Ram-bhai's ketli, (Gujarati name for a tea-stall) has always been a lifeline for students of the institute anytime of the day or night. Nidhi was visiting the ketli with some of here college friends. There started the little college romance between the two, Nidhi being a localite and studying in a city college.

After graduation in 2005, Siddharth and Nidhi got married and started living in Mumbai. As part of final placements, Siddharth got placed with Monsanto India Limited in Mumbai in a marketing role. Later he moved to Johnson and Johnson, Mumbai, also in the marketing line.

Life takes a u-turn

Life seemed perfect. An IIMA degree to boast about - a plush job, a home and a loving wife. But about a year or so after marriage, Nidhi was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour called Medulloblastoma.

"We were also told it was an aggressive tumour for which there was no cure in allopathy," said Siddharth.

Nidhi's case got further complicated because the tumour had spread to rhe spine, making her case even more rare. This was the beginning of a rather tumultuous journey for the couple, where they realised that no degree prepares you for these situations.

Nidhi went through agonising pain and constant black-outs. She was finally operated on in Mumbai. Post the operation, however, Nidhi was moved to Ahmedabad for chemotherapy and post-operative treatment as her parents were there.

"I travelled every weekend to see her and made it for every doctor's appointment. But I realised, she needed me more than just these visits. The doctors were giving up on her and I decided to take that one big step," recalls Siddharth.

Goodbye job

The IIMA grad just chucked away his well-paying job and went to Ahmedabad to be with his wife. "Everyone told me I was doing the wrong thing. My parents, colleagues and all our friends. But I was adamant. My wife needed me more. When and if things turn out well, my degree will get me another job, I justified to myself," Siddharth told Pagalguy.

In Ahmedabad, Siddharth spent many sleepless nights with Nidhi since the chemotherapy sessions were painful. That was when Siddharth told her stories about IIMA days and the days before IIMA when he was a marine engineer. "After a few such sessions Nidhi told me to pen down my little stories in a book. Since I used to wait for Nidhi to sleep first and then sleep myself, I used that time to jot down my stories in my diary. I thought then that my stories were too simple and only meant for Nidhi to cheer-up," said Siddharth.

The coming days turned out to be worse. "One after another, the doctors began giving up on Nidhi and at that time I wanted to throw the diary out," recalls Siddharth.

Hope returned

But hope came again. A doctor in Kolkata took up Nidhi's case and slowly and surely life came back into her body. Regular doctor visits, a strict control on diet and proper medicine intake made Nidhi come back on track. Today after many months, Nidhi is off medicines too. "Somewhere during Nidhi's recovery, I came back to Mumbai and almost immediately got a job again. I guess I owe that to my management degree. One evening a scholar was addressing the participants on the concept of work culture. One of the participants asked the following question:

"I am a senior manager of Materials Department and I joined an organization 25 years ago as an Engineer Trainee and over the last 25 years I have gone through every experience in the organization. During the initial part of my career, the job was very challenging and interesting. However, all those exciting days are gone since I do not find my joy any more interesting because there is nothing new in my job. I am now feeling bored because I am doing a routine job.

However, Sir, I am living in the same house for over forty years, I am the son for the same parents for over forty five years, I am the father for the same children for the past ten years and the husband for the same lady for the past twenty years! (the toughest job!) In these personal roles I do not feel bored Please tell me why I am bored of the routine in the office and not in the house?"

The response from Scholar was very interesting and convincing. He asked the executive the question: "Please tell me for whom does your Mother cook?"

The executive replied that obviously the mother cooks for others. Then the Scholar said that the mother "Serves" others and because of this service mindedness, she is not feeling tired or bored. But in an office, we "Work" and not "Serve". Anything we consider, as service will not make us feel bored. That is difference between Serving and Working.

He asked the executive to consider his work as service and not merely a work !!

This was a very interesting analysis!!

Whenever you put a larger context around your work and see a broader meaning for your work, you will take interest in your work and it will make a very big difference in your internal energy.

Attitude Matters!!!

If you think you are working for the organization you will get frustrated. If you feel you are doing a service and getting some service charges you will feel happy.

After all - doing what you like is freedom but liking what you do is happiness!

MARRIAGE

"When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said, I've got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes.

Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce. I raised the topic calmly.
She didn't seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why?

I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man! That night, we didn't talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to Jane. I didn't love her anymore. I just pitied her!

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company.
She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I had said for I loved Jane so dearly. Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.

The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something at the table. I didn't have supper but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Jane.

When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again.

In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn't want anything from me, but needed a month's notice before the divorce. She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a month's time and she didn't want to disrupt him with our broken marriage.

This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day.
She requested that every day for the month's duration I carry her out of our bedroom to the front door ever morning. I thought she was going crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd request.

I told Jane about my wife's divorce conditions. . She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce, she said scornfully.

My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mommy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don't tell our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn't looked at this woman carefully for a long time. I realized she was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I wondered what I had done to her.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me.
On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was growing again. I didn't tell Jane about this. It became easier to carry her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger.

She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily.

Suddenly it hit me... she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.

Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it's time to carry mom out. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day.

But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, I hadn't noticed that our life lacked intimacy.

I drove to office.... jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind...I walked upstairs. Jane opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Jane, I do not want the divorce anymore.

She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead. Do you have a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Jane, I said, I won't divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn't value the details of our lives, not because we didn't love each other anymore. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart.
Jane seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away.

At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, I'll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.

That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I run up stairs, only to find my wife in the bed - dead.
My wife had been fighting CANCER for months and I was so busy with Jane to even notice. She knew that she would die soon and she wanted to save me from the whatever negative reaction from our son, in case we push thru with the divorce.-- At least, in the eyes of our son--- I'm a loving husband.... "

The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the bank. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot give happiness in themselves. So find time to be your spouse's friend and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a real happy marriage!

During one of our seminars, a woman asked a common question. She said, " How do I know if I married the right person ?"

I noticed that there was a large man sitting next to her so I said, " It Depends. Is that your husband?"
In all seriousness, she answered " How do you know?"
Let me answer this question because the chances are good that it's Weighing on your mind.
Here's the answer.
EVERY relationship has a cycle. In the beginning, you fell in love with Your spouse. You anticipated their call, wanted their touch, and liked Their idiosyncrasies.

Falling in love with your spouse wasn't hard. In fact, it was a Completely natural and spontaneous experience. You didn't have to DO anything. That's why it's called "falling" in love... Because it's happening TO YOU.

People in love sometimes say, " I was swept of my feet." Think about the Imagery of that _expression. It implies that you were just standing There; doing nothing, and then something came along and happened TO YOU.

Falling in love is easy. It's a passive and spontaneous experience.

But after a few years of marriage, the euphoria of love fades. It's the Natural cycle of EVERY relationship. Slowly but surely, phone calls Become a bother ( if they come at all), touch is not always welcome ( when it happens), and your spouse's idiosyncrasies, instead of being cute, drive you nuts.

The symptoms of this stage vary with every relationship, but if you Think about your marriage, you will notice a dramatic difference between the initial stage when you were in love and a much duller or even angry subsequent stage.

At this point, you and/or your spouse might start asking, " Did I marry The right person?" And as you and your spouse reflect on the euphoria of The love you once had, you may begin to desire that experience with someone else.

This is when marriages breakdown. People blame their spouse for their Unhappiness and look outside their marriage for fulfillment.

Extramarital fulfillment comes in all shapes and sizes. Infidelity is The most obvious. But sometimes people turn to work, church, a hobby, a friendship, excessive TV, or abusive substances.

But the answer to this dilemma does NOT lie outside your marriage. It lies within it.

I'm not saying that you couldn't fall in love with someone else. You Could.

And TEMPORARILY you'd feel better. But you'd be in the same situation a few years later. Because ( listen carefully to this):

THE KEY TO SUCCEEDING IN MARRIAGE IS NOT FINDING THE RIGHT PERSON; IT'S LEARNING TO LOVE THE PERSON YOU FOUND.

SUSTAINING love is not a passive or spontaneous experience. It'll NEVER just happen to you. You can't "find " LASTING love. You have to "make" it day in and day out. That's why we have the _expression " the labor of love."

Because it takes time, effort, and energy. And most importantly, it Takes WISDOM. You have to know WHAT TO DO to make your marriage work.

Make no mistake about it. Love is NOT a mystery. There are specific Things you can do ( with or without your spouse ) to succeed with your marriage.

Just as there are physical laws of the universe ( such as gravity),

There are also laws for relationships. Just as the right diet and exercise Program makes you physically stronger, certain habits in your Relationship WILL make your marriage stronger. This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother's hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future.

After finishing the cleaning of his mother hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.

That night, mother and son talked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the director's office.

When he starts work, he assumes that every person must listen to him, and when he becomes a manager, he would never know the sufferings of his employees and would always blame others. For this kind of people, who may be good academically, may be successful for a while, but eventually would not feel sense of achievement. He will grumble and be full of hatred and fight for more. If we are this kind of protective
parents, are we really showing love or are we destroying the kid instead?*

You can let your kid live in a big house, eat a good meal, learn piano, watch a big screen TV. But when you are cutting grass, please let them experience it. After a meal, let them wash their plates and bowls together with their brothers and sisters. It is not because you do not have money to hire a maid, but it is because you want to love them in a right way. Modern Etiquette: How to impress, or fail, in work introductions

One of the most common business needs is one that many of us often stumble over and even fear -- making introductions.

I'm not talking about formal, behind-the-podium introductions but rather face-to-face introductions between you, colleagues, clients, and superiors.

While it may seem simple on the surface, very few people, including high-level executives, know how to make a correct introduction.

This simple lack of understanding always surprises me as introductions set the tone for the future of a budding business relationship. Done well, an introduction can serve to reassure a prospective partner or client that they are dealing with a seasoned professional.

But if it's botched, an introduction might also serve as your final sign off.

By following these simple dos and don'ts of introduction, you'll put yourself in a good light and those you're introducing at ease.

DO:

- Always introduce yourself, whether it's a chance meeting for a few seconds or a business dinner lasting several hours. When you introduce yourself first you establish control of the meeting or encounter, demonstrate initiative and an ability to be direct - all plusses in a business situation.

- Always state your name and something about yourself. For example you might say, "Good morning Mr. Doe, I'm Harry Smith from Atlas Motors."

- If you fail to introduce yourself to a newcomer, or fail to introduce those whom you know but who don't know each other, you demonstrate a lack of leadership.

- Always introduce from the bottom up. That is the "lesser authority" is always introduced to the "higher authority" by saying the higher authority's name first. For example, a junior executive should be introduced to a senior executive. Similarly, a company executive should be introduced to a client. Clients and customers are always considered more important than someone in your firm, even if the client has a lower rank than your colleague. Example: "Ms. Higher Authority, I would like to introduce Mr. Lesser Authority from our legal department. Ms. Higher Authority is the Vice President of Human Resources."

- Always highlight the company or position of the individuals you are introducing and, if appropriate, include pertinent information about each. For example you might say: "Mark Stevens, I'd like to introduce John Doe, he's the senior vice president at ABC Cell Phones, and the person to call if you need anything related to cellular phones. John, Mark is president of Stevens Associates, the best P.R. firm in the country for promoting products."A descriptive introduction eliminates the inevitable silence that often follows as unfamiliar individuals try to guess what the other does or whether they have anything in common. By providing the information you put each individual at ease and establish an opening for conversation.

- Always stand for introductions. This goes for both men and women and for both business and social occasions. No exceptions.

DON'T:

- Never give yourself an honorific such as "I'm Ms. Doe" or "I'm Dr. Doe." It falls in the same tasteless category as drinking a toast to one's self.

- Never assume intimacy due to an introduction. When you meet someone for the first time, you should continue to call him or her by his or her title and last name until invited to be on a first-name basis.

- Never "meet" people. When introducing people, the proper wording is "Mr. Doe, I'd like to introduce to you Mr. Joe," and not "Mr. Doe, I'd like you to meet Mr. Joe."

- Never respond to an introduction with just "hi" or "hello." When responding to an introduction you should always repeat the name of the person you are meeting (i.e. "Hello Mrs. Martin"). Adding a courtesy statement such as, "I've been looking forward to meeting you" or "How do you do?" is always appreciated.

- Never assume "ladies first" in your introduction. In the business world, gender has no bearing on order of introduction - it's based on seniority and rank.

- As the saying goes, "You never get a second chance to make a great first impression." Knowing that your first impression is a correct one will go a long way towards boosting your professional image and your self-confidence.

Romance is a state in which your primary relationship is not with your beloved but with your Self. Romance therefore begins when you can show your soul to another person.

The secret to being attractive, if one consults the past record of human experience, is remarkably simple. It is summarized in an aphorism from the Latin poet Ovid, who said, "To love, be lovable." A lovable person is someone who is natural, easy with himself or herself, radiating the simple, unaffected humanity that makes anyone truly attractive.

Sometimes, however, the simplest solutions are the most difficult to achieve. People find themselves caught up in the anxious search for love precisely because they don't feel lovable. The very condition that would make for romance is absent. It is sad to say, but many of us have never felt lovable, even in childhood, when we had the fewest defenses against love and therefore could approach it with the most spontaneous innocence.

Being lovably isn't a superficial quality; it is a quality of spirit. If you can see yourself as spirit, it won't matter what conditioning has occurred in the past, whether you were fortunate enough to be raised with loving values or so unfortunate that you were discouraged and made to feel ugly and worthless.

Remember, in our inmost being, we are all completely lovable because spirit is love. Beyond what anyone can make you think or feel about yourself, your unconditioned spirit stands, shining with love nothing can tarnish.

If being lovable really is the secret to attraction, then there is no need for anxious searching. Because your own being, which can never be lost, doesn't have to be found. The only requirement is a shift in perception, for those who cannot find love perceive themselves as not being lovable. This is not true, but they make it seem true by linking their perception to a powerful system of beliefs.

Unconditional Love

When you have no relationship to another person, you are automatically thrown back upon yourself. The feelings that come out have no basis in what you need or want from others they simply come out.

If I get bumped in the street and feel angry, the emotion arises spontaneously. I may feel guilty about it the next moment, but in that split second it was the only choice my self could make. My level of awareness did not offer me a better response.

The rishis speak of unconditional love, in fact, as a transcendental quality that becomes infused into the mind during meditation. When the mind goes beyond normal waking awareness, the transcending process brings one in contact with unconditional love in its silent, unmanifest state.

"Unmanifest" means that this love is not directed at anything; it simply vibrates within the nature of the silent witness, like a radio signal silently waiting for a radio to pick it up. At the end of meditation, the person returns to the waking state bringing some of this transcendental quality into his everyday consciousness. A new vibration has been added that alters, however subtly, the person's former awareness.

This explanation is a twist on the usual understanding of unconditional love. By definition, you can love someone unconditionally only if your love does not alter no matter what the other person does. This aspect of "no matter what" implies a superhuman effort to will. For all its apparent goodness, this situation smacks of self-denial and even masochism.

The rishi's version of unconditional love contains no effort at all. A person who feels love "no matter what" is simply following his nature. In truth, that is all that can be asked of anyone. Acting according to your own level of awareness is inescapable.

After FEMAIL MAGAZINE 'Sarticle on 30 simple things girls want, there was popular demand that we also ask men about their wish- list. So girls, it's your turn to take notes

RATHER HEDONISTIC, but certainly simpler compared to a woman's demands.

That's how the men's list of wants turned out to be when we asked them.

Here they are, but not in any order of importance: 1. Money, money, money. Put '10 crore or so in his account and never hassle him with tax issues - and voila, you have one happy man." Sure, it should all be in white. Men love the colour of money and they love it even more when it is white," says Tajinder Dogra, who responded to our previous article on " 30 simple things women want". Khitij Chawla, a biotechnology student, says: " Enough money to support all our frivolous expenditure, savings, EMIs and investments." 2. Six- pack, eight- pack, whatever.

These may be trends set by our Bollywood pin- up boys, but if they can do it why can't their fans? So men now want to pack some muscles into their abdomen. " Six or eight - anything would work for me," says Debanjan Chakraborty, trying not to sound too fastidious. However, some men wish they could be proud of their tyres. " We call it single pack, a sign of prosperity.

And women do like rich men... yet being fat isn't such a good idea," sighs Nitin Agarwal, a 27- year- old copywriter.

3 Women who don't expect us to be mind readers. They don't want silicon goddesses, or size- zero babes with the sex appeal of stick insects. But they wish women could be more direct in communicating. " They must specify if they just want to be listened to or they seek advice. Tell us what's wrong... or what you want and don't rely on telepathy to do it. Also, don't drag other issues into an argument... stick to the problem at hand," says Chawla.

4 A girl who can read our minds. When were men ever fair? They may not want to read a woman's mind, but they do want women to read what's on theirs.

Even if it means that they end up sounding a little like women. A woman with great telepathic skills - that's what they want. " Yes, a woman who can guess what's on my mind would be great. We too want to be showered with compliments - not daily, but say once a month," says Karan Joseph Raghavan, a reader who e- mailed us in response to the previous article, rather reasonably.

5 Maturity . Women grow up faster than men, experts say.

But men feel women should be more mature. " They all seem to be giggly girls trapped in women's bodies. But if they are so mature, why don't they know how to react when a man is angry?" asks Raghavan. Men want to play the angry young man and be left alone at times.

6 S. E. X. All things in life for a man revolve around the three- letter- word.

" We agree that men can't think beyond their pants. They think about it 25 hours a day. It is on top of every man's mind, heart, body and soul," admits Saurabh Arora, a 25- year- old marketing professional.

They also would love to have good- looking girls at their workplace. " There should be some eye- candy, especially in our team, so that we have someone to talk about while having a smoke," says Chakraborty.

7 S- P- A- C- E. It is sacred for them. They need it and crave for it badly. " We need a room of our own, where we can lock ourselves up and not be bothered even if the world falls apart," says Arora. It would be a dream- cometrue for a man to find a woman, who gives them that space.

8 Drink without snobbery.

Chuck taking in the aroma of wines and Scotch - this snobbery won't lead you anywhere. " We sometimes drink just to get sloshed, rather than enjoy the oaky smell of Scotch," says Chakraborty. Yes, even if wine snobbery is a great way to impress women.

9 A job that pays us to go on vacation. All of them seem to be big on adventure sport, even if they chicken out on a roller coaster ride.

" Trekking trips and adventure treks, all paid for.

Besides, providing that much- needed thrill in a man's life, they give us the break we want from the saas- bahu soap operas," says Arora. On screen and sometimes in real life.

10 Night out with the guys. At least once week, a stag night- out because they don't want their world to always revolve around the women in their lives. " Guys can have great fun together and that too with no strings attached," says Arora.

11 . Shopping is a pain at times.

" It's boring if you have to stay in one single shop for hours," says Chawla. It is quite painful when your mother/ sister/ wife/ girlfriend cannot decide on what she wants to buy, he adds.

12 To be the life of a party. So what if they can't move their bodies like Michael Jackson or a John Travolta. So what if they are good only at a bad bhangra or a saphera dance? Your man loves the idea of grabbing all the attention at a party and is proud of his dance moves even if they make you wince. Sure, women love to attract attention at a party too, but they are a little more mature about it... ahem! 13 To be the alpha male at work/ home. We evolved from apes. Call it animal instincts but men crave to be the alpha male, especially at work, with bosses scared of them and women co- workers swooning all over them. And getting paid for even insubstantial work.

14 Condoms. A super- saver, mega economy pack of condoms.

It is a terrible idea to scout for condoms in the middle of the night. A lifetime supply of condoms wouldn't be bad at all.

15 Jacuzzi + Sauna. A luxurious bath in a jacuzzi, a glass of beer and a sexy woman at one's side. Really, did women say that they like to spend hours by themselves in the bath? Maybe something can be worked out.

16 To be treated like babies.

" We are always pampering the women in our life," says Raghavan. " Except our mother, no one else pampers us that much. Sometimes we also want to be the baby in the relationship," he adds.

17 Sunday afternoon drinking.

A glass of chilled vodka with lime cordial would make for a perfect Sunday afternoon. Of course one shouldn't be howled at for doing the same. " We just want to relax on a Sunday afternoon," says Chawla.

18 Easy hair removal procedures . Not having to get up each morning and shave. Yes, men do discuss hair removal creams and waxing. " I am a hairy man. But instead of worrying about ways to get rid of body hair, I wish women would be more appreciative of out natural fur coat," says Agarwal.

If Julia Roberts could show off her hairy armpits, why can't men? 19 Buffer stock of boxer shorts and underwears. The last thing men want to do is to shop for underwear.

It's boring. " So a never- ending supply of boxer shorts would work for me," says Chawla.

20 Party every month . They want one big party a month without worrying about dropping drunk friends home or cleaning up the vomit on the carpet.

21 To be street smart. Whether they are street smart or not, men want to be known for their streetsmartness.

" People should get the impression that we have the solution for everything," says Chawla.

22 Gizmos, gadgets, mean machines. A car that would make heads turn. A smart phone with unlimited data connection, GPS and turn- by- turn navigation ( men don't like asking for directions) along with an organiser and reminders that can jolt you from slumber. " A giant screen high definition TV and hi- fi music system with digital data connection," says Chawla. Arora adds: " Of course everything should be affordable." 23 An excellent couch. Remember Joey and Chandler in Friends ? How they spent hours sitting on their lazy boy chairs drinking beer and watching Baywatch ? Well, it seems to be a man's ultimate fantasy to have a multi- purpose comfortable couch on which they can do all sorts of things.

24 People who drive in their lanes. " What does it take to get some traffic sense into some people?" asks Agarwal. They want people to drive in their lanes and obviously non- bumpy roads with no traffic. And yes, the traffic cops should treat us like royalty, says Agarwal.

25 No alarm clocks. We are lazy, they admit. " Alarm clocks should be completely banned," says Dogra. And women - mothers, sisters, wives should understand the importance of five more minutes of sleep.

26 Food, food, food and more food.

True, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. " We don't expect our better-halves to cook like our mothers, all we want is for them to learn the basics of good cooking and we are ready to help them in the kitchen," says Agarwal.

27 Dhishoom dhishoom. They want to be able to pick up a guy and throw him like a soft ball, and impress the audience.

" One must learn to defend oneself, take up krav maga maybe," says Chawla.

28 A surprise bonus/ promotion/ hike. Once in a while, men would look forward to some surprise perks. Recession is over... so there's no excuse, they say.

29 No bills. They don't want to be bothered with bills. Once in a while, banks could waive off credit cards, bills and EMIs. " We'll pay our utility bills, though," Agarwal concedes graciously.

30 Corrupt politicians caught in sting operation. Men like talking about big things like politics and governance. " We love watching politician caught in a sting operation," says Dogra. Well, a man can always dream...can't he!

Here are seven ways to help you define who you are.

1. What is your story?
Your story is more than just a list of the events in your life. It is about your self-image, how you see yourself, what shaped your mind, which memories imprinted themselves on you. Taken altogether, your story tells you where you are in the cycle of life.

2. What are your expectations?
Expectations are seeds. Once planted, they manifest into those things we gain from life, or lose. When you become aware of your own expectations, you discover the unspoken limits you have set on yourself. There is a huge difference between those who expect great things and those who don't.

3. What is your purpose?
This is the meaning you are trying to find. Purpose runs deeper than the superficial things we hope to get, which mostly center on money, possessions, status, and comfort. If you know your purpose, you know the deeper project to which your life is dedicated.

4. What is your destination?
This is about fulfillment. Human goals are endless; they unfold, not like a road that has an end but like a river that flows to join the sea, merging with ever larger possibilities. If you know your destination, you can envision your highest fulfillment.

Secret of Mona Lisa smile revealed

London, Aug 22 (IANS) The famous smile of Mona Lisa, the magnum opus of Leonardo da Vinci, is no more a secret as scientists have decoded the technique how the Renaisance-era painter created a special effect to show the enigmatic expression.

According to the experts, the artist managed to achieve his trademark smoky effect, known as sfumato, on the painting by applying up to 40 layers of extremely thin glaze thought to have been smeared on with his fingers.

The glaze, mixed with subtly different pigments, creates the slight blurring and shadows around the mouth that give Mona Lisa her barely noticeable smile that seems to disappear when looked at directly.

With the help of X-rays, the researchers were able to see how the layers of glaze and paint had been built up to varying levels on the face, The Telegraph reported.

With the drying times for the glaze taking months, such effects would have taken years to achieve.

The findings also suggest that he used his fingers to apply the glaze as there are no brush marks or contours visible on the paintings.

The new discoveries have been made by scientists at Laboratoire du Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musees de France and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility.

Writing in the scientific journal Angewandle Chemie, Philippe Walter, who led the study, said: 'The perfection of Leonardo da Vinci's painting technique has always been fascinating.

'The gradation of tones or colours from light to dark is barely perceptible. Above all, the way the flesh is rendered gives rise to many comments because of its crucial role in the fascination exerted by Leonardo's portraits.

'Even today, Leonardo's realisation of such thin layers still remains an amazing feat,' Walter said.

The team also studied skin tones in six other of Leonardo's most famous paintings, including 'Virgin of the Rocks', 'Madonna of the Carnation', 'Saint John the Baptist' and the 'Virgin and the Child'.

Walter and his team believe that Leonardo experimented by creating different types of glaze and with different pigments to perfect the sfumato effect.

Professor Francis Ames-Lewis, vice-president of the Leonardo da Vinci Society, said: 'Leonardo da Vinci was concerned with producing smooth tonal gradients from light to dark without any perceptible change like we see in real life and sfumato was essential to this.

The Web Design Community Offers Advice To Beginners

At one time or another, we are all newbies. That's right: you can deny it all you want, but not one of us got into this game with a full deck stacked in our favor. We entered as newbies, born fresh after the start screen loaded. However, unlike in a game, we are not immediately launched into a tutorial level to learn the ropes in this new world — what to avoid, how to progress, etc. And if we feel overwhelmed by our newbie status, we may not be able to find our way to the tutorials and guides that the community has put together to help us sort all of this out. So, feeling very alone in all this is easy.

Jumping in a new passion can be difficult and time-consuming at first. The support of the community can be extremely helpful in overcoming the learning curve and helping to find the right route for your career and your professional skills. Image credit.

But this is the great thing about being part of the online development community — that you are never truly alone. Your experience may be unique in its details, but it's not generally, which is great because the community is very open to sharing its experiences and offering guidance to help newbies navigate the twists and turns we are sure to face as we continue down the developer's path. In most cases, all you have to do to get some helpful advice is to venture into the social media neighborhoods and ask the community at large. At times, the answers just pour in.

That is what we found when we went out on Twitter and on Facebook recently to poll our followers and fans. We asked "What is the single best tip from your experience that you would give to newbie developers?" This article is the result of all of the amazing responses we have received. Before we go any further, we would like to thank those who took the time to answer our query and who offered so much great advice to all the newbies out there in the development arena. As usual, the advice also serves as a nice refresher to all those seasoned veterans who have been in the game for a while.

Never Stop Learning

This answer, which we received repeatedly, is by far one of the best pieces of advice for newbies in the development field: never stop learning. This truly is one to keep in mind as you tread through this new world, because working in a field as dynamic and fluid as development, you can quickly fall behind if you do not actively strive to stay ahead of the curve. Without somewhat of a dedicated effort on your part, your progress could stall, and your skills and work could stagnate.

Once again, the online community and so many others have your back in this respect. So many wonderful books, blogs and other accessible resources are teeming with knowledge, just waiting to be absorbed and passed on. So, read. Implement and practice what you have learned. As noted in the replies below, trial and error is a fantastic method of self-teaching. You might even go so far as to schedule some kind of weekly assignment for yourself, to always keep your skill set growing.

Start with examples and muddle around with them. Change every line of code to see what it does. Then learn why those things work.
Be a sponge. Don't let pride get in the way of learning from others.
Never stop learning.
Read. Oh god, read so many books on the subject that force you to practice things over and over again.
Learn how to learn for yourself.
Never think you've learned it all.
Don't pretend you know all. Blogs and forums are your best teacher.
Read the docs. Don't reinvent the wheel. Test. Learn.
Don't copy and paste. Learn.
Always have a project on the go. It makes sure you keep learning.
Learn by putting as much as possible into practice.
Always learn more. You should never be 100% content, and always strive to constantly improve your skills.
Never stop developing their skills.

Take Criticism Constructively

… No matter how it is given. This is another important piece of advice that is both vital to learn and extremely difficult for some to do — especially because the anonymity of the Internet seems to give so many license to forget one half of the constructive criticism coin; they instead berate and belittle through their comments and their assessments of the developer's talent. But no matter how harshly they come at you, find a way to distill the essence of their statements to see if you can gain anything from them. If they have no merit, let them go.

One thing to always remember, as pointed out in the advice below: never take criticism of your work personally — especially given that in this field we are never supposed to stop learning. We should always welcome feedback from others in the community that helps us improve. It is simply a means of keeping our skills sharp. Inviting open criticism allows others to help open our eyes to new approaches and even problems we are entrenched in. Also, thinking of it as feedback and not as "criticism" might soften the blow for you. After all, who doesn't love feedback.

Be open to feedback as everything changes.
Learn to love criticism.
Test in every browser/OS config you can. And don't take criticism of your work personally.

Be Patient

Here is another major tip to hold onto: be patient. If you can master this one, then you will have saved yourself many sleepless nights and hair-pulling-induced headaches along your journey to greatness as a developer. Remember that these skills do not develop overnight, no matter how much we wish they would. This journey is just that, a journey — not a direct flight to the final destination. Getting to where you want to be will take time.

Take your time. Don't rush through the learning process too quickly, or you will likely burn out and get frustrated. Take the slow route, making sure you completely grasp one area before moving on to the next. If you hurry, chances are something important will slip past you. And as you work with others in the community, be patient with those both behind and ahead of you on the learning curve.

Have patience… a lot of patience. And if you have to get IE6 to work, start a pot of tea or something to calm yourself. :P
Have patience: with yourself, others and especially the code. :)
Take all the time you need to learn the basics. They are fundamental.
Prepare for frustration.
No matter how stupid what your client just said was, think before you reply.

Comment Your Code

Another pearl we found in the plethora of replies is a wonderful coder's mantra (or at least it should be): comment your code. Comments are a powerful aid to new developers for many reasons, the main one being that learning through repetition is a fantastic way to make information stick. If you constantly comment on why you used a particular bit of code or how another bit works, then each time you return to it, you will be further cementing it in your brain.

Also, comments can provide just as much benefit to others who will be interacting with your code. Remember, it is not always about you. Comments are a way for others to learn from your work, just as you have learned from the code of those who came before you (if in fact they did think to leave comments). If you work with other developers on a project, this is an easy way to keep each other informed on why someone coded their part the way they did. It demonstrates professionalism, too, so keep up the comments.

Thoroughly comment your code! It will help infinitely in the long run.
Always use detailed comments. At some point, someone else will look at your code. Do them a favor and comment like mad.
When commenting: describe why not just how.

Be A Helpful Member Of The Community

This next bit of advice ranks quite high for many developers, not just because of its obvious benefits but because of the reward one feels from doing it: be a helpful member of the development community. It could prove to be an invaluable asset in your arsenal, not only because the lines of communication that you open will create great learning opportunities, but because you are building lasting relationships that you can call upon later when you find yourself in need of assistance.

Those of us who have gradually moved through the ranks have especially relied on these resourceful posts and helpful guidance to make the most of our skills and code. We should really stay active in the community and give back when and where we can. Paying it forward for all of those who have paved the way for us is not only an obligation; we really should want to help this community of ours thrive and grow. Reaching out through social media outlets, blogs, forums and more can really improve one's skill set and viability.

Get involved in the design and Web community as quickly as possible.
Peer code reviews!
Set aside time to help other developers. It could be in online forums. It really helps you reflect on what you know and don't know.

Learn The Business

Learn all aspects of the business side of the industry, especially if you are freelancing. We got a few responses about this. And it makes sense. If you want any kind of sustainability in your career, then having a solid grasp of the business side of things is important.

Knowing how the business operates and what clients generally expect will prepare you well for a freelance career… and will also keep you from being taken advantage of. If you learn the general pay scale and expectations of players in the field (including those of clients and other developers), then you'll be well prepared to set your own rates and expectations. It also teaches you how to handle paperwork, which can be cumbersome and potentially overwhelming if you are unfamiliar with this side of the business.

You can only make so much money coding. Learn the business.
Quadruple your hourly estimate.
Make a careful and detailed estimate. Now triple it. You're probably close to the truth.
Your estimates will suck for a long time, so be as conservative as you can, and offer discounts on overage.
IE6 is a bitch!
Choose your clients wisely. Bad clients end up costing you time and money.

If You Don't Love It, Leave It

Some other words of wisdom that were passed along can be summed up like this: if you don't love it, then this is not the right work for you. Developing is more than a job; it is a career — beyond that, even a way of life. Coding changes the way you see and interact with the world around you. It challenges you every day with something new to conquer or sort out. The hours seem to keep piling up, and your brain becomes harder and harder to switch off, continuing to solve problems long after you have bidden it to rest.

This holds especially true for freelancer developers. As a freelancer, you are so much more than the person behind the code: you are the person behind it all. This is where your love of code comes into play ten-fold. Passion goes a long way in development. True passion for what you do comes only from loving it. You can't fake it, either. A lack of passion not only will reflect in your work but will impede your progress.

Make Time For Yourself

Another bit of advice to keep you sane as you grow is to make time for yourself. The best way to do this is to keep some sort of side project going. There are many reasons to do this, your sanity being the main one. Staring at code for hours on end takes its toll, especially if your code is failing and a solution escapes you. One way to fight off this madness is to have something to work on that lets you unplug.

A side project gives you an outlet to recharge and sustain your interest in the field you have devoted yourself to. Make no mistake: this is a time-consuming career path, and without a side project to keep you engaged, you will quickly burn out. The work that once enthralled you will lose its appeal, and the passion that got you to where you are will fade. A side project also ensures that you constantly learn. You can choose projects that challenge you in ways that you don't find in work for clients.

Keep sane with a side project of your own.
Work on a real project every day, even just a personal one.

Believe In And Be Yourself

Another powerful bit of advice offered by the collective that we polled was to always believe in and be yourself. Given people's tendency to aim for the throat when "critiquing," these words of wisdom are especially potent. Allowing negative words and disparaging character assessments to lower your opinion of yourself and your abilities will deflate your momentum.

Always be true to your personal voice. Don't compromise it while finding your way. You want to carve out a truly individual path, and that includes your voice, too. So, don't try to imitate others who have found success. As noted below, never try to be someone else, because that never works the way you hope. Being inspired by others is fine, but don't lose your identity and voice in the process.

Believe in your qualities. Never try to be somebody else. Life is too short for that.
Don't quit! Hang on! Everything will work out fine.

Even relationship gurus are of the opinion that a desperate pursuit of love never yields the fruit. So do girls deliberately play hard-to-get to win their love? One cannot generalise here, as there are people who are genuinely not interested and hence behave indifferently. But it’s also true that if you let something go, it comes back to you.

Playing ‘hard-to-get’ works sometimes as men do prefer independent, bold and confident girls over sensitive miss-goody-two-shoes. May be it’s not just virtue that men search for in partners. Going around with ‘Ronnies’ and marrying ‘Bettys’ is something that has been long followed by any average Indian male. But now the trend is changing. There are guys who think sensible and good-hearted Betty is a thousand-fold better than silly Veronica. Nowadays who has the time to plan or chalk out all such love strategies, and above all, who cares? Life is too short to be wasted over these so-called games to make someone fall for you or to fall out of a relationship. It’s meant to be enjoyed, and a life partner should be a good friend more than an ego-booster.

If any or all of these ring true, it might be time to shake things up.

Here are 10 signs that could indicate that it’s time for you to move on – either from your current job function or from your organization – to other adventures.

1. Social networking but not working

Are Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter taking up more of your working day than preparing that PowerPoint presentation? If your company doesn’t allow access to these sites, perhaps your energies are focused on finding proxy sites which allow you to access sites that have been blocked by your company.

Or, do you simply dread coming to office and wait for the day to end quickly?

3. Not challenged enough

This is related to the point above. But if you feel that your organization is not giving you the right exposure or a challenging enough position, you could end up becoming very frustrated. “Take the initiative of engaging with (your) employer and…ask for more responsibilities,” says Pankaj Arora, managing director of Protiviti Consulting Pvt. Ltd, a business consulting and audit firm. If that doesn’t work, look for challenges elsewhere within or outside your organization.

4. Unmet goals

You want to become a team leader or a business head but your employer is moving you around into different departments without really promoting you. “It is time for you to move on when you feel your career objectives are not being met or fulfilled by your employer,” says Ms. Sheth.

5. Too big for your shoes

You were good at your first job, so you were promoted to the next level and the next level and so on. But now you have reached a position which is too much for you to handle. This is popularly referred to as the Peter Principle which states that in a hierarchy, employees rise to a level of their incompetence.

Either you need to re-skill and reinvent yourself pretty quickly to survive in that role or you need to move into another position which is a better fit for you.

6. Closed to change

Today’s organizations are nimble on their feet and are often changing their processes or businesses to meet delivery and cost pressures. If you can’t handle that change because you are too set in your ways, you could end up getting left behind. Or, maybe you don’t agree with your organization’s changes at a philosophical or an ethical level. “There are certain reasons why you work at a place and there are certain things that enthuse you,” says Mr. Kuriakose. “If those core issues change and you suddenly find that you’re working for a place that you wouldn’t have joined” it might be time to rethink.

7. Politics over mechanics

Every organization has politics and it’s smart to keep on top of major changes as well as the movers and shakers of your organization. But if your professional relationships at work have become so entangled and complicated that they are keeping you from your work, that’s a problem. Don’t let politics become more important to you than the mechanics of your job.

8. You’ve been overlooked — again

Are your batch mates from school and college more successful than you are? Or is your company promoting people with less experience and fewer achievements above you? Figure out why that is happening. If they’re working harder and are smarter than you, then consider adding to whatever skills are keeping you from that next job. But if your company is overlooking you, then it might be time to go where you get more recognition.

9. Don’t want your boss’s job?

We typically envy our bosses not only for their higher salaries but also for the responsibility and authority they command. But if you don’t aspire to be in your boss’s position at some time in the future, then it’s time to look around and reconsider your career plans. You can’t stay in your current position forever. Not everyone has to be the top dog, but a career path that promises advancement and satisfaction is a good road to be on.

10. Evil thoughts about your boss?

Ok, so all of us have some evil thoughts about our bosses every now and then. That’s normal. If you hate him or her as a person, deal with it. But if your professional relationship is troubled, then you have a problem. “You have to work with all kinds of people,” says Mr. Kuriakose. However, a boss who is always pulling you down, and maybe embarrassing you in front of colleagues, could be harmful for your morale and progress. Time for some introspection and perhaps an exit strategy.

STRESS HAS become the password of this age. It is a 20th century phenomenon -a gift of the mechanised world. Dr Hans Selye, the famous Austrian "stress doctor", started to investigate this new phenomenon in 1930; it was unheard of till then, and so Dr Selye had to coin new words -le stress in French and der stress in German -when he was asked to present his theory in France and Germany.
Stress is the wear and tear our bodies experience as we adjust to our continually-changing environment.

According to the Osho vision, stress is a force that can be used creatively. Here are some simple Osho techniques to get over stress: LIVE YOUR STRESS FULLY: Sometimes stress is so much that you can't sleep at night. Don't worry: use the energy to walk up and down, or go for a run: let the mind do what it wants to.

TAKE NOTE, TWICE: If you have a headache or any pain, don't feel inimical towards it and reach for an aspirin.
Have no attitude, neither friendly nor antagonistic. Just take note: "headache, headache", or "tension, tension". Remain undisturbed by it.

TALK TO THE BODY: Sit on a chair in a dim-lit room.
Close your eyes, relax the body and feel inside where you feel the tension. If it's the knee, just touch the knee and tell it, "Please relax". In a week you will be able to communicate with your body.

TALK TO THE BREATHING: Have a little talk with your breathing: "Please relax. Be natural". You will see that the moment you say it there will be a subtle click. So tell it to relax two or three times and then just remain silent. Do this for a week; by then you would have found a golden key!

IF YOU make a list of all the things that you consider sin according to, let's say, the five major religions of the world, then you will understand that to be alive is a sin. Isn't it?

So, if you don't feel guilty about something does that mean that you will not go to the temple or church or mosque? Most people go only because there is fear, guilt and greed. Fear and guilt are the two tools on which religion has been running for a long time. If there is no fear in people, there is no guilt, and as a result very few would visit these places.

Religions have turned the fundamental processes of life into sins, so that you always feel guilty.Therefore, you must always go to the temple or church or mosque and pay the necessary money and respects. What I am telling you is -do whatever you want, but please understand that for every action you perform there is a consequence. If you can bear the consequence joyfully, do whatever you please. If you are the sort who will cry when the consequence comes, then right now you need to calibrate your actions.

Every single action, has a consequence. Are you ready for the consequence? There is no sin. So does it mean everything is punnya? No. No paap, no punnya. It's all made up by people to keep you under check and control. Your sense is the best control, not guilt. I believe human intelligence is able to exercise control. There is no need for some God to control you. If you allow your intelligence to function it will control you, isn't it? It will bring sense to your life.

ust like every chocolate lover wants to live in the world of Willy Wonka, I want to live in this Mac computer world for a day! How fun! Imagine your desk is your desktop and your computer's life is now your life. Interesting, isn't it?

All I can say is this clip is so well done. Everything including the fail whale, the real life Photoshop, the tweets flying by, the pop up ads and the spam, is all just brilliant! According to Vimeo, "The premise of this short film is to represent the digital tools and interfaces we use daily in an analog way. This concept is essentially just for fun but also reminds us just how digitally connected we all are." You will probably notice that Google Chrome is left out. They were planning to include it, but at the last minute, the little girl who was going to play that part in the video didn't feel like being an actress that day, so they left Chrome out.
